While working at RVCA, we discussed having a collaboration across all categories: men’s and women’s lifestyle and sport. We considered several artists and ideas. I was eager to do camouflage, however I wanted it to make sense for RVCA. It should be elevated and artistic, just like the brand. Hardy Blechman is the British designer and founder of fashion brand, Maharishi. DPM is the camouflage segment of Maharishi. “DPM aims to detach camouflage from its military associations and promote it’s natural roots and artistic influences.” - seemed like the perfect fit! Through a contact provided by an old co-worker, I was able to get in touch with the studio. They would develop a bespoke, custom camo pattern exclusively for our use. RVCA founder, PM Tenore, was crucial in establishing this - advising on color, scale and fabrication. The photoshoot echoed the sleek vibe of the collection and featured RVCA advocates - Seniesa Estrada and Chito Vera.
“RVCA partners with Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM) to create a limited run clothing collection. DPM aims to detach camouflage from its military associates and promote its natural roots and artistic influences. DPM Studio creates bespoke camouflage patterns and continues to conduct research on camouflage in nature and the military, as well as its uses within contemporary art and design.”
