This project was a dream come true for me. Like so many other artists, I was blown away when I first attended the Beautiful Losers exhibition at the OCMA back in 2005. It really seemed like the introduction to a new art movement - similar to how the Sensation exhibit introduced Young British Artists in the 90s. The wonderful documentary, shot by curator Aaron Rose in 2008, further expanded on this diverse collective. I first met Aaron while working at RVCA, he was the editor of ANPQuarterly - a free arts magazine produced in conjunction with RVCA. I reached out to Aaron about working on a project with Stance and we had a great meeting. We created this pair of socks in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the film. The sock art was all knitted, including the raindrops on the back.
βThe 2008 film Beautiful Losers documented the burgeoning careers of several young artists whose diy-take on contemporary art and street culture was having a seismic impact on traditional art the world over. It provided a platform for iconic creatives such as Mark Gonzales, Harmony Korine, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairy, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton to express their ideas freely on a larger scale.
Stance Anthem is proud to present a limited-edition project in honor of the film's 10th anniversary.β
