Altamont x Robert Lazzarini

2015

Art Direction, Project Management & Design: Alan Garcia

Video: Patrick O’Dell

The first time I saw Robert Lazzarini’s work, I thought I was having an acid flashback. I was at the 2002 Whitney Biennial, and my jaw dropped while viewing his distorted “payphone” sculpture. His sculptures are magnificent and disorienting. That unique, warped perspective felt very in line with what we were doing at Altamont, which was why I needed to reach out. Around that time we were developing a lot of psychedelic, cowboy-type trends and imagery. Robert agreed to provide us with his reinterpretation of the Old West. Last, but not least, I visited his studio in New York to interview him, with another individual that I was a big fan of, Patrick O’Dell (creator of the Vice tv series, “Epicly Later’d”).

“Altamont x Robert Lazzarini: Distorted
Robert Lazzarini is an artist best known for his mathematical distortions of objects and sculptures that defy our habitual sense of space.
Most recently, Lazzarini’s brought his distortedly unique worldview to Altamont for a tee collaboration. His designs are a reinterpretation of the Old West.”
